Welcome to Toronto! I'm Chinga, your host. I have lived in my downtown old Toronto house for 42 years and never have a problem. My place is located right in the heart of the City and is near two popular parks with large public tennis courts and basketball courts: Trinity Bellwood Park and Stanley Park. We are surrounded by residential and commercial buildings. Across from us is a large office building and to the left is another office building. Parkdale Library is only 7-15 minutes away but a 24-minute walk will get you there quickly. Our location is most of the time not affected by brownouts due to storms & heavy snow as downtown old Toronto has energy priority. If you want to experience living in a safe home in downtown Toronto, live with us. Another reason students like my house is that the walls are covered with mirrors from the entrance hallway, to the living room, dining room, washroom and bedrooms. Our place is near Lake Ontario so fresh air especially at night, comes in handy. University of Toronto, Ryerson University, York University, OCAD University, George Brown College, Humber College and many Language schools like ILSC, ILAC & KAPLAN are just 3-5 km away and will take you only 18-30 minutes to get there by TTC public transit. Our area is very safe even if you come home late at night, still, a lot of people are on the streets and police cars are patrolling around all night. No curfew. You are mature enough; I don't need to monitor you. King and Queen streets are frequented by mostly young people roaming around the pubs and restaurants until 2 am. Subway stations nearby are OSGOODE station on Queen Street West and St. ANDREW station on King Street West. Both stations are 15 minutes away from my place by TTC. It is very safe even to walk from the subway to my place at night, especially since patrolling police cars and taxis are all over both streets. Our house is also secured by a home security doorbell camera to shun intruders. Included in the rent are use of bed linens, electricity, hot/cold water, cookwares, kitchenwares, dishes like plates, bowls, spoons & forks, unlimited wifi and once a week free use of the washer/dryer (on weekends only). NOTE that you are responsible for your own supplies: bathroom supplies  like toilet paper, soap/shampoo, towel, kitchen food supplies like meat, eggs, veggies, condiments; and laundry supplies like detergent and stuff.  Note also that we don't offer meals of any kind. You will have your own kitchen shelf, fridge shelf and shoe shelf. For nightly cooking, I offer the use of Rice cooker, Air Fryer, water Kettle, Toaster, Keurig coffee maker and Microwave Oven. You are responsible for washing your own dishes after EACH use and cleaning up the mess you created,  bringing your own garbage to the bins  in respect to the other people living here. You are provided with a house slipper, as no shoes are allowed to use inside the house.  You are also provided with a large garbage can in your room.  Make sure you sort them as  GREEN food bin, BLACK garbage bin and BLUE recycle bin when disposing.   ROOMS: 1) ( NOT AVAILABLE )  This WHITE room overlooks the CN Tower, fully furnished with beddings and thick winter blankets for winter, has a double bed, white matching furniture with a thick mattress, 2 desks and an office chair, a large dresser, a vanity table with mirror and chair, big closet, and a large standing mirror. Pictures are displayed in my website. 2) (AVAILABLE OCT 19, 2026) This OAK room has a real pine wood set of armoire furniture from Art Shoppe back in the 80s and a wide, tall, huge mirror fit for a 6-footer. Fully furnished with beddings and thick winter blankets for winter, it has a double bed,  matching furniture with a thick mattress, a desk and an office chair.  Lots of storage with 3 pull-out storage units under the bed, 2 secret storage units above the bed, and 2 big shelves on both sides.  Also a closet for hanging clothes.  Pictures are displayed in my website. 3) (NOT AVAILABLE) This room is an in-suite with a single bed with a thick mattress, TV, and a 3-piece washroom with a bidet.  Very quiet room suitable for someone studying for a big exam. My place has  been renovated, has clean rooms and no clutter around the house. Students maintain their rooms and the house quite well so I expect you to do the same. They most especially like the simplicity of my rules. Some of my students told me they looked around for other places and decided to stay for more or less a year. I am also blessed that my students are happy and friendly people. OCCUPANCY: 2 months minimum stay. 12 months maximum stay.(RENEWABLE) I ask for a security deposit of 25% of the total rent to hold the room.   I also require the first 4 months' rent paid upfront when you move in plus a damage deposit of $600.   NOTE: FREE PARKING ONLY WHEN YOU COME TO SEE THE ROOM. Room(s): 1. Double Room (WHITE ROOM) with Shared bathroom This room is a large room on the top floor overlooking the CN tower. Capacity: 2 Rates: Weekly / 950.00 Monthly 2. Double Room (OAK ROOM) with Shared bathroom Capacity: 2 Rates: Weekly / 950.00 Monthly House Rules: My place has newly been renovated, it featuring clean rooms with no clutter around the house. Students maintain their rooms and the house quite well so I expect you to do the same. They especially like the simplicity of my rules.  LAUNDRY : One load anytime Saturday OR Sunday only.  No laundry Monday-Friday.  You buy your own detergent and fabric softener.  I will laundry your bedsheets and give you a new one every 2 weeks. PAYMENT:  A non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total rent is required to save the room. The remaining 75% is due when you arrive, plus a $500 security deposit.   The $500 security deposit is refunded when you leave provided it is not used.  Example of when it is used: If you lose your keys.  I give you 3 keys: 2 for the front doors and one for your room.  Each key costs about $12.  If you lose 3 keys, $12*3=$36.  $36 will be deducted from your security deposit. Also, please Google "STUDENT LOST HOMESTAY KEYS". Another reason for deduction is if you break a window or plate, etc.  For more info, we can discuss it via email and/or phone. KITCHEN: No meal of any kind is provided. You buy your own cooked food or grocery supplies from nearby restaurants and grocery stores. Light cooking—breakfast in the morning and a meal after school/work—is a privilege I added.  You are responsible for washing your own dishes after each use, putting them away on your shelf, and cleaning up any mess you create, like sweeping the floor, out of respect for the next person to use it.   For shared Kitchen Etiquette, consult https://1stlake.com/blog/shared-kitchen-etiquette/ ACCOMODATION: You are expected to stay until the end of your booking. A 10% cancellation fee is charged if you leave early.  Everything provided to you for use must be returned for the next person to use it. MORE.. You are provided with clean slippers, as no shoes are allowed inside the house. You are also provided with a garbage can in your room.  Make sure you sort waste for the green food bin, the black garbage bin and the blue recycle bin when disposing outside.  Do not leave your garbage in the kitchen hoping someone else will dispose of it for you.   THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING MY HOMESTAY!
